Biography |
Wesley Jonathan (born October 18, 1978) is an American
actor.
Born Wesley Jonathan Waples in Walnut Creek, California,
outside San Francisco, to a Native Indian and African
American mother, and a Creole father. Jonathan's parents
divorced at the age four. Nucci, a name his mother penned
him shortly after birth. As a child, he spent four years
living in Germany and traveling throughout Europe which gave
him an open view of different various groups of people and
their cultures with his mother and two siblings. He started
his first role out in the Keenen Ivory Wayans blaxploitation
film, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka. He is the middle of three
children including his two sisters, Rachel and Octavia. He
went to public school until his senior year and had to
finish the year home schooled. Jonathan enjoys basketball,
volleyball, and swimming.
Moving back to the United States, Jonathan spent long
periods in front of the television learning lines from
various sitcoms and movies. He became so persistent in his
demand to be on television that his mother met with one of
the family members, cousin Crystal, who suggested to seek
him an agent. Jonathan landed his first job in a music video
at the age 8 for an artist named Melissa Manchester. Soon
after, he began working on 21 Jump Street, which also
starred Holly Robinson and Johnny Depp. He traveled to
Canada, where the show was being filmed. Acting quickly
became a career for Jonathan as he landed numerous of
commercials and guest starring roles. This broad range of
television made Jonathan considerably more seasoned than
more of his peers. The pleasant ensemble of both comedy and
dramatic films demonstrated the impressive range of acting
talent that Jonathan exhibits. However, despite his
fledgling film career, Jonathan is more comfortable on the
small screens in front of enthusiastic live-studio audience.
Jonathan signed with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment in
1996 for a record deal, but no record was released; in 1998,
he was released from Aftermath. A year later, he was signed
by Columbia Records and released his first album.
He also performed as a singer, rapper, and hip hop dancer
with the group 3rd Storee. |
