Biography |
Simon Baker is an Australian film and television actor. He
is currently the star of the CBS television series The
Mentalist.
Baker was born in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia, the son
of Elizabeth Labberton, a high school English teacher, and
Barry Baker, a groundskeeper and mechanic. Baker, then known
as Simon Denny, grew up in the Northern NSW village of
Lennox Head and attended Ballina High School, graduating in
1987. He moved to Sydney to study nursing; however, didn't
complete his degree as he caught the acting bug when he
tagged along to an audition with a friend. Baker was raised
Catholic. He emigrated to the United States in 1995.
Baker is married to Australian actress Rebecca Rigg, and
they have three children: Stella Breeze, Claude Blue and
Harry Friday. According to a recent interview with David
Letterman on the Late Show with David Letterman, Baker made
mention of the fact that fellow Australian actors Nicole
Kidman and Naomi Watts are godparents to two of his
children. Until recently Simon and his family resided in
Malibu, California, before temporarily moving back to
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. They have since returned
to Los Angeles. |

He and Rebecca are very good friends with actress, Nicole
Kidman. Rebecca has known Kidman for many years - they met
on the audition circuit in Australia. Kidman is youngest
child Harry's godmother.
As a teen, competed on a state level in surfing and water
polo.
He was one of the singers/dancers in the band Euphoria's
film clip Love You Right.
Children with Rebecca Rigg: Stella Breeze (b. 1993), Claude
Blue (b. 1998) and Harry Friday (b. 19 September 2001).
Nicole Kidman is Harry's godmother.
He, Russell Crowe, and Guy Pearce were all raised in
Australia. All three of them also appeared in L.A.
Confidential (1997). Baker is the only one of the three who
was born in Australia. Pearce was born in England, Crowe in
New Zealand.
Voted among People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People
(2002).
Named among Fade-In Magazine's 100 People in Hollywood You
Need to Know in 2005.
