Biography |
Romain Barras, born August 1, 1980, in Calais, is a French
decathlete.
Barras was first introduced to the sport at a very young
age. His father would take him to practice to make him move
so he could discover the sport early. Thus, at 2 and half
years old, his father would let him run on the corridor of
his apartment which measured approximately 10 metres. His
father would place shoe boxes for him to jump over and he
was to make the course as fast as possible. "Yes, that was
my first hurdle race," Barras laughs.
Thanks to his father, Barras has been a successful
decathlete ever since. Barras finished 8th in the decathlon
at the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg
and also competed in the 2004 Olympics.
During his spare time, Barras enjoys going to the movies,
his favorites are Platoon, The Good Shepard, and Children of
the Marshlands. He also loves to cook, listen to music and
travel around the world. His favorite destinations are: Asia
in general (Thailand, Japan, Bali...) and all other
countries that are always sunny like Dominican Republic, New
Caledonia, and Brazil. |
