Biography |
Pat Burrell is a Major League Baseball left fielder and
designated hitter for the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Phillies announced on December 16, 2008, that they had
signed outfielder Raúl Ibáñez to a 3-year, $31.5 million
deal, replacing Burrell in the Philadelphia Phillies'
outfield.[2] After playing for the Phillies for his entire
major league career (2000–2008), it was announced that
Burrell and the Tampa Bay Rays had reached a 2-year, $16
million deal on January 5, 2009 making Burrell the Rays'
designated hitter. |

Selected by Philadelphia Phillies with first overall pick in
1998 Major League Baseball Draft. Drafted by the Boston Red
Sox out of high school, but opted to attend the University
of Miami instead. Made major league debut on May 24, 2000
for the Phillies vs. the Houston Astros. Has drawn hitting
comparisons to Mark McGwire early in his major league
career. Tied for major league lead with 18 outfield assists
in 2001.
In March 2001 created a media frenzy in Philadelphia when he
granted an interview to Penthouse.

Named to Baseball Digest magazine's 2000 Rookie All-Star

Filed for free agency November 2008. Was chosen to lead the
World Series Parade in Philadelphia. He, his wife, Michelle
and dog Elvis rode with the Budweiser Clydesdales. Has two
