Biography |
NickCarter is an American musician and pop singer.
He is a member of the popular music boy band the Backstreet
Boys and is generally considered the biggest heart-throb in
the group.
Carter was born in Jamestown, New York. His father, Robert
Gene Carter, is of Jewish descent and his mother, Jane
Elizabeth Spaulding, is a Mayflower descendant of Welsh,
Irish, German, English and 1/4 Blackfoot ancestry. Carter's
siblings include Angel, Leslie, Bobbie Jean "B.J." and
singer Aaron Carter. He also has an older half-sister named
Ginger from his father's first marriage.
At the time of his birth, his parents were running a night
club called the Yankee Rebel in New York City; a few years
later, they moved to Tampa, Florida and managed a retirement
home for senior citizens. Carter, who showed early musical
talent, began auditioning for acting roles in the early
1990s, and appeared in an unbilled role in the film Edward
Scissorhands (1990). After being a member of a children's
band, he was spotted by producer Lou Pearlman and made a
member of The Backstreet Boys, a boy band that Pearlman was
training and promoting at the time.
The Backstreet Boys became huge successful in the late
1990s, and Carter gained fame, becoming known as the
heartthrob of the group. Besides being arguably the most
popular member of the group, he was one of the main
vocalists, having sung lead in parts of all of their singles
to date except for their debut (We've Got It Going On) and
I'll Never Break Your Heart. He did a drum solo on tour
ocassionally and did some important backing harmonies
including the fourth verse of Show Me The Meaning
(supporting Kevin), and taking over the lead part soon
thereafter.
In 1999, he was ranked #1 on the list of "Hottest Under 21"
byTeen Scene Magazine and was named "The Biggest Teen Idol"
by Teen People magazine. He was also named one of People
magazines "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" in 2000.
Carter's fame has also helped propel the career of his
brother Aaron. Also in 2000, E Online described him as the
"most gorgeous celebrity on the planet". (Previously
attributed only to Leonardo DiCaprio.)
Carter attempted a career as a solo singer in 2002, when he
released a pop-rock solo album titled Now or Never. In 2002
Carter was named "The Sexiest Man in the World" in CosmoGirl
Magazine poll. He has recently been back on tour with the
Backstreet Boys, who are promoting a new album called Never
Gone; their first single was "Incomplete" and their second
is "Just Want You To Know". In fall 2005, they toured
Europe.
Carter has also returned to his acting career. He appeared
opposite Kevin Zegers in the 2004 horror film, The Hollow,
and was slated to star in another horror film, Brew, but
that project has since fallen through.
Carter and his siblings will star in a reality show, The
Carters, which will premiere in the fall of 2006 on E!
Entertainment Television.
In the past Carter had relationship with Willa Ford. Then he
was linked with celebrity hotel heiress Paris Hilton, and by
late 2003, the two were publicly dating. The relationship
ended in 2004. In March 2005, Carter was arrested in
Huntington Beach, California for drunk driving and was found
guilty. In late 2005, Carter was rumoured to be engaged to
Chinese entertainer Bai Ling, although he has denied this.
Carter's parents are divorced and his father remarried
Ginger Elrod on April 1, 2004. In June 2005, Carter welcomed
the birth of his half-brother, Kanden, from his father's new
marriage; he also has a younger step-sister called Taelyn by
his father's new wife. His mother remarried to a Mr. Holcomb
on November 2nd, 2005. |
