Biography |
John Burke Krasinski (born October 20, 1979) is an American
actor, perhaps most widely known for playing Jim Halpert on
NBC's The Office, and for his role in the film License to
Wed.
Krasinski, the youngest of three sons, was born in Newton,
Massachusetts, the son of internist Dr. Ronald Krasinski and
Mary, a nurse. He was raised in the Catholic religion.
During an interview on Late Night With Conan O'Brien,
Krasinski revealed that when he was 8 years old, he threw a
Jart (giant lawn dart) and accidentally lodged it in his
older brother's head. Also during his childhood, he played
on the same Little League Baseball team and attended the
same high school as B.J. Novak, now his co-star on The
Office and also a writer and co-producer of several episodes
of the show. Krasinski graduated from Newton South High
School in 1997 and finished up his academic career at Brown
University, where he graduated in 2002 as a playwright with
honors.
Krasinski's TV career began in 2002 as an intern on Late
Night with Conan O'Brien. His first stage experience was
starring in a satirical high school play written and cast by
B.J. Novak. Among Krasinski’s television credits besides his
starring role on The Office are appearances on Law & Order:
Criminal Intent, Without A Trace, Ed, American Dad! (as the
voice of a squirrel), and an episode of CSI: Crime Scene
Investigation.
Krasinski's feature film credits include Kinsey, starring
Liam Neeson and Laura Linney, and Duane Hopwood, starring
David Schwimmer and Janeane Garofalo, which premiered at the
Sundance Film Festival. He appeared in Sam Mendes' Jarhead,
starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and had a supporting part in Nancy
Meyers' The Holiday. Krasinski also had cameos in For Your
Consideration and Dreamgirls. He also wrote and directed a
film adaptation of David Foster Wallace's Brief Interviews
with Hideous Men which was filmed in winter 2006.
Krasinski narrated a series of commercials for Ask.com
starting in March 2006 as well as a commercial for the Apple
TV in April 2007. More recently, he had a major role in the
film License to Wed with Mandy Moore and Robin Williams. He
supplied the voice of Sir Lancelot in Shrek the Third, and
starred as Gideon in A New Wave and Brevan in Smiley Face.
His next movie appearance will be in Leatherheads, a
football movie set in the early 1920s, which has a tentative
release date of December 7, 2007.
Krasinski was featured in People magazine's Sexiest Men
Alive issue of 2006. |
