Biography |
Joel McHale is an American
comedian, television personality and actor. Since 2004 he
has been the host of The Soup, a weekly comedy series that
airs on E!. McHale stars as Jeff Winger in NBC's Community,
which premiered in September 2009.
He is Jewish and of Irish and Nordic descent. His mother is
from Vancouver, British Columbia and his father is from
Chicago. Joel grew up in the Seattle area, graduating from
Mercer Island High School in 1991.
He received a bachelor's degree in History from the
University of Washington in 1995. While at the University of
Washington, McHale belonged to the Theta Chi Fraternity "for
three horrible months". He was recruited to be on the rowing
team, but later walked onto the football team, playing tight
end for two years. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree
from the Professional Actors Training Program at the
University of Washington. |

Is known for his appearance in Burger King commercials as an
office jerk.
Went to the University of Washington as an undergrad from
1991-95. Got his bachelor's degree in history and was a
tight end for the Husky football team.
His wife gave birth to their first son, Edward Roy McHale,
in 2005. They call him Eddie.
His father's profession moved the family around several
times. Joel was born in Rome before his family moved to
Washington State, then they lived in Haddonfield, New Jersey
for 2 years before moving back to a Seattle suburb.
His son, Eddie, underwent open heart surgery at
2-months-old. He made a full recovery.
Was a history major and went on to complete the master's
program in acting at the University of Washington.
His wife gave birth to their second child, Isaac McHale, on
March 12, 2008.
Joel is a member of Theta Chi Fraternity from the Alpha Rho
chapter at the University of Washington.
Attended the same high school as Barack Obama's mother
