Biography |
Sumpter was born in Monterey, California to Gary Sumpter and
Sandra Johnson. He is the brother of Jessica Sumpter and
Gigi Sumpter who are also actresses. He was raised in the
small town of Mount Sterling, Kentucky until he was 11. When
he moved to Lexington, Kentucky to model, he won IMTA's
Pre-Teen Male Model of the Year award in 2000. Soon
afterward, he and his family moved to Los Angeles, where he
currently resides.
In July 2002, Sumpter, 13, was selected for his breakout
role as Peter Pan. Filming took place in Australia in the
fall of 2002.
During the filming of Peter Pan, Sumpter grew eight inches
taller (from 5' 00" to 5' 08"). A window frame at Wendy's
nursery in which Peter stands had to be remade four times,
so that Sumpter didn't have to crouch to get in. Sumpter
said, "And Hook is supposed to be a lot bigger than I am,
right? When I got taller, Jason (Isaacs, the actor playing
Captain Hook) had to stand on an apple box."
The $140 million production opened December 2003, but did
poorly, possibly due to reports of its more 'adult'
treatment of the J. M. Barrie story.
Nevertheless, the positive exposure led to a star role in
the short-lived TV series, Clubhouse which co-starred Dean
Cain.
Following Clubhouse, Sumpter won the lead role of Justin
Petersen in the Lifetime TV film Cyber Seduction: His Secret
Life. He played a high school swimming champion whose
athletic career gets derailed when he develops an addiction
to online pornography.
Sumpter spent the summer of 2005 in Oregon filming the
comedy The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang.
Sumpter currently stands at 5' 11" and weighs 148 lbs. He is
home-schooled. |

accepted into the state's Gifted Arts program

the stunts shown in the movie. He said he was unable to do
"like two or three of them because they were too dangerous".

spoofing _Moulin Rouge_ (2001) as he sits on a swing
singing.
In 11th grade his favorite subject is history and his least
favorite is math
