Biography |
Jason Heath Sehorn (born April 15, 1971 in Sacramento,
California) is a former professional football player in the
National Football League.
He played football for Mt. Shasta High School in Mt. Shasta,
CA and then Shasta College in Redding, CA.
He was selected in the 2nd round of the 1994 NFL Draft by
the New York Giants after playing for two years at the
University of Southern California.
He spent most of his career playing the cornerback position
with the Giants. Upon his release, he signed with the St.
Louis Rams as a safety. His contract with the St. Louis Rams
was voided after he failed his physical and he did not play
during the 2004 season. Sehorn received some notoriety for
being the only white starting cornerback in the NFL during
much of his career.
It is rumored that his nickname by other Giants' players was
Hollywood, based on his upbringing in Southern California,
until they learned that he grew up in a trailer park. He was
then nicknamed Species for his athleticism. After a highly
successful season as a cornerback in 1997, he suffered a
debilitating knee injury, tearing both his anterior cruciate
and medial collateral ligaments, in the 1998 preseason game
against the New York Jets while returning a kickoff. Though
he returned the next season, his speed was greatly
diminished.
Sehorn is perhaps most famous for marrying actress Angie
Harmon, and in particular, his proposal. During one of
Harmon's appearances on The Tonight Show, Sehorn (almost
certainly with the assistance of host Jay Leno) hid
backstage and surprised Harmon on the set, dropping to one
knee and asking for her hand in marriage, in front of a live
studio audience and millions more watching on television
later that night.
In 2005, Sehorn joined Fox Sports Net, and is currently a
panelist on their Sunday NFL pregame show. |
