Biography |
Evan Ragland Farmer Jr. (born July 28, 1972 in Asmara,
Ethiopia) is an American actor, musician, and television
personality. Farmer grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a
cum laude graduate of Tulane University, where he studied
architecture for four semesters and graduated with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Communications in 1995.
He is best known for his role in MTV's Film and Series
2ge+her, a stint on the U.S. soap opera Guiding Light, and
for his three and a half seasons as host of While You Were
Out on The Learning Channel. In 2002, he and Architect Tom
Granthem started Renovolution which renovates single-family
homes and puts his strong interest and background in
carpentry to good use. He has also hosted several television
shows on cable networks such as TLC, HGTV and VH1.
Currently, he is the host of HGTV's Freestyle.
In 2000, he was an opening musical act on Britney Spears's
summer tour. He has also appeared in minor roles in movies
such as Shaft, Austin Powers in Goldmember (he portrayed the
teenage version of Robert Wagner's "Number Two" character)
and as a guest star on television shows including JAG, DAG
and as fill in Host on TRL. He also provided voice-overs for
various projects, including the MTV series Daria and
Celebrity Deathmatch. He also recently starred on Celebrity
Paranormal Project.
He is actively involved in many charities, most notably
Susan G. Komen for the Cure, The Michael Cuccione Foundation
([MakingaDifference.org]), Rebuilding Together, and Bras For
a Cause. He personally responded to the Pacific Tsunami
Disaster with a $10,000.00 donation to the Unicef Tsunami
Disaster Relief Fund. During the final season of While You
Were Out he shaved his head as a show of support for his
mother, who is currently battling cancer.
Farmer is married to Andrea Smith, since October 2005. He is
named after his father, Dr. Evan Ragland Farmer. His father
is a dermatologist. He is the only one in his immediate
family who did not go into the medical field. Farmer is the
middle child of three children, and is the only boy. One
sister is 2 years older, the other is 4 years younger.
Farmer became a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity at Tulane

Graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science in personal
communication from Tulane University, New Orleans in 1995.
Was the voice of 'AJ McLean' of the Backstreet Boys on
"Celebrity Deathmatch" (1998) when BSB were up against
Beastie Boys.
Was part of the boy band spoof "2gether: The Series" (2000).
The 2gether series was cancelled soon after member Michael
Cuccione died suddenly at age 16.
Never wore red (except for costumes for acting gigs) prior
to "While You Were Out" (2002). Wearing red makes him
uncomfortable.
Applied for an internship on Bob Vila's show prior to
getting his job on "While You Were Out" (2002).
Tries to read all of his fan mail and tries to reply if he
has time. It can take up to 6 months because of his
schedule.
Leads sing-alongs on the "While You Were Out" (2002) set.
Donated $10,000 to UNICEF to aid tsunami victims.
Is involved with various cancer charities since his mother
survived cancer twice and his friend/costar, Michael
Cuccione died from complications related to cancer.
Is named after his father, Dr. Evan Ragland Farmer.
Is the only one in his immediate family who did not go into
the medical field. His father is a dermatologist.
